About SwissGenealogy.com
[Genealogie Zentrum Worb]
SwissGenealogy.com is a genealogical center in Worb, Switzerland offering genealogical products together with research and publishing services for both Americans and Swiss. We were established in 2002 by Lewis Bunker Rohrbach CG, following over 30 genealogical years in America. Our library of 12,000 volumes was brought over from America to Worb at the same time. Our concentration is primarily on Canton Bern, Switzerland and its 400 Gemeinden although in future we hope to expand coverage to all 3,000 Gemeinden in Switzerland's 26 cantons.
Our office is at Paradiesweg 5, CH-3076 Worb, Switzerland on the ground floor of a 200-year-old Bauernhaus (above a massive Weinkeller /winecellar for those who care), while the library is located in der Spycher built in 1750 and separated from the farmhouse by a 275-year-old historic Linden tree.
There is ample parking, high-speed Internet access, and the massive library. The library inevitably is heavily about American genealogy (after all, the number of genealogy books in English written on German-speaking lands is quite limited), with a strong sub-sector of English parish records, and a strong German-speaking section. Most books on Swiss genealogy ever published in English also are included.
If you would like to stop by to discuss a genealogical project, it is necessary that you contact me ahead of time for an appointment.
Worb is a truly wonderful, quiet, market town of 10,000 located ten miles east of Bern, with a distant view of the Swiss Alps. It has two train lines which run directly from Worb to Bern, one of which terminates in Bern's Hauptbahnhof. Departures during most days are every 15 minutes and the ride takes only 24 minutes for each of the lines. Since Worb and Bern are at each end of the two rail lines it's not possible to get lost.
Worb has a large Schwimmbad with four swimming pools, a truly superior brewery , an ice skating rink, two hotels (zum Löwen and der Sternen), two Schloss, four banks, many stores and restaurants, etc. The Gemeinde web site is well worth visiting.
